How does a customs broker differ from self-clearance?
A broker is a licensed specialist who handles customs clearance on your behalf and bears legal responsibility for the accuracy of the declaration. Self-clearance requires knowledge of the Ukrainian Classification of Goods for Foreign Economic Activity (UKT ZED), the regulatory framework, and the practices of a specific customs post. An error in the product code can lead to delays or additional charges.
What documents are required for customs clearance of goods from China?
Foreign trade contract, invoice, packing list, transport documents (air waybill or sea bill of lading). Depending on the product category, additional certificates may be required: sanitary, radiological, environmental control.
Can a customs broker resolve a dispute with customs?
Yes. If customs delays the cargo or disagrees with the product classification, the broker obtains independent expert opinions and represents the client's interests until the situation is fully resolved.
How long does customs clearance take?
Standard clearance takes 1-3 business days after receiving the full package of documents. Timelines depend on the product category, import regime, and workload at the specific customs post.
